Greg Norman Completes First Site Visit to Tezcalame as Routing and Design Concept are Finalized
Costa Alegre, Jalisco, México – Greg Norman, joined by GNGCD President Chris Campbell and Lead Designer Rogelio Abarca, visited Tezcalame last month for his first on-site review of the new golf course site set within one of Costa Alegre’s most pristine coastal landscapes. The visit focused on staking the centerlines of each hole, confirming the initial routing, and defining the final design concept.
The team toured the property with Grupo Favier Owner Juan Jorge Favier, Construction Manager Pedro Fernández, and Project Director Oscar Cobián. With the full routing now approved, the project moves into the next phase of design documentation and detailed grading studies.
Tezcalame’s golf experience will be unlike anything in the region: a core 12-hole course built around three distinct natural environments. Holes 1–4 will unfold through expansive agave fields; Holes 5–8 transition into natural wetlands; and Holes 9–12 culminate in a dramatic lake corridor, including a signature island-green at Hole 11.
During the visit, Norman identified opportunities to embrace natural runoffs across the site, integrating them into the strategies of Holes 3, 4, and 9. These discoveries ultimately shaped the course’s three-environment design concept, tying the golf experience more closely to Tezcalame’s landscape and ecology.
The clubhouse, positioned on an elevated vantage point, is being planned with 180-degree views overlooking the agave plantations and lake holes, and will include an on-site agave distillery, further rooting the project in the cultural character of Jalisco.
With its flexible play options, offering 12, 15, 18, and even 24-hole loops, the course is designed to deliver a complete and modern golf experience while honoring the raw natural beauty of Costa Alegre. Tezcalame is positioned to become a catalytic project for the region, with development guidelines focused on environmental preservation.
The project remains on track for a March 2027 opening, aligned with the debut of the Chablé Hotel.
