Greg Norman Visits Club de Golf Chapultepec as Phase 1 of The Renovation Project Nears Completion
Greg Norman, together with GNGCD President Chris Campbell and Lead Designer Rogelio Abarca, visited Club de Golf Chapultepec this week to review construction progress on Phase 1 of the course renovation project which is scheduled for completion in December 2025. GNGCD’s work at Chapultepec continues to build on the club’s rich legacy, enhancing playability, aesthetics, and long-term sustainability while bringing new life to one of Mexico’s most storied courses.
Finishing touches are underway on the newly shaped greens at Holes 6 and 7 as well as continued work on the bunkers. During the visit, Greg finalized design intent for both green complexes, ensuring the character and strategy of these holes align with the course’s refreshed identity. Norman’s adjustments on Hole 7 significantly enhanced visibility, playability, and the relationship between the new green complex and adjacent lake. The result will be a fair yet memorable par 3 that challenges players while embracing the natural environment.
On Hole 8, previously a short and less demanding par 5, Norman identified an opportunity to extend the hole and redefine its fairway strategy, creating a more compelling par 4 for both members and LIV tournament play. This reimagined hole is expected to become one of the most demanding and strategically engaging on the course.
Across the property, Chapultepec’s classic character is being elevated through thoughtful design and improved environmental resilience. A major component of the renovation includes enlarged and re-integrated lakes, which have quadrupled in storage capacity. This enhancement provides far greater irrigation reliability during Mexico City’s dry season, which is one of the club’s historical challenges, while also strengthening strategic features on Holes 6, 7, and 17.
Member play scheduled to resume in March 2026, just ahead of the April 2026 LIV Tournament. Phase 2 of the renovation will begin in May 2026.
